The North Shore Jazz Project presents:

Jazz on a Sunday at the Historic Barn at the Crane Estate in Ipswich 280 Argilla Road, Sunday, September 12, 2010;
Gates open at 4 p.m. for picnicking, Concert runs from
6-8:30 pm.

The North Shore Jazz Project is pleased to present an early Sunday evening of jazz. Come out and enjoy the panoramic views of the marsh as nature paints its magnificent foliage filled backdrop. Bring a picnic and enjoy the spectacular grounds as musicians play. Save some room for the scrumptious fall taste of Russell Orchard’s famous cider donuts, apple cider and some DownRiver Ice Cream cones that will be available for purchase.

The concert will feature outstanding talent from Ipswich and beyond. Prepare yourself for an eclectic combination of musicians. Opening with an acoustic set from Orville Giddings; the barn will be filled with the horns, keys and percussion of these brilliant musicians:

Out of Ipswich:

Tom M. Palance - is a renowned trumpet performer and educator; he has performed for five US presidents, was with the DC United Navy Band and has played with the Glen Miller Band, Joe Williams and many more. www.tompalance.com

Mark Earley - is a baritone & tenor saxophonist for Roomful of Blues. At age 19 he traveled with the Guy Lombardo Orchestra. Originally from Ohio, Earley moved to Boston in 1995. His charismatic stage presence and talent keeps him very busy. www.roomful.com

Bert Seager - is a leading jazz pianist and educator in Boston, has extensively toured the U.S. and internationally- he has performed and recorded with Joe Lovano and many more. He spends summer weekends in Ipswich, Thursday nights at Stone Soup. Seager has over a dozen compact discs. www.bertseager.com

Orville Giddings - Powerful blues voice of Ipswich and beyond, Orville is an alumnus of Berklee College of Music and a local favorite. Beyond this region, Giddings has taught music and theater in Cyprus, played in bands in Colorado and the Virgin Islands.

And Beyond:

John Lockwood - Acoustic and electric bassist, has toured the U.S. and Europe with Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Gary Burton, the Mel Lewis Big Band, and The Fringe. He has also performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Boston Pops, MIT Symphony, Pat Metheny, Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Shaw, Toots Thielemans, Stan Getz, and Art Farmer.

Joe Hunt - Drummer/Educator played with Dave Baker band 1956-1959 while attending Indiana University. Member of: George Russell sextet 1960-62 (performer in residence at the Lenox School of Jazz 1960). Army service 1962-64. Stan Getz quartet 1964-5. Jim Hall trio 1965. Gary Burton quartet 1966. Bill Evans trio1966-67. Freelanced in NYC till 1971. Moved to Boston-joined Berklee College faculty in 1971 and remained there as a professor of percussion studies. While in Boston, he led groups including John Scofield, Jimmy Mosher, Mick Goodrick, and Mike Stern.

About the North Shore Jazz Project:
Since its inception ten months ago, the North Shore Jazz Project’s mission has been to create an environment where music education, performance and appreciation can flourish. Since November 2009, the group has presented several standing room only events with top quality performances and inspirational school workshops.

This barn was graciously donated for the show by the Trustees of Reservations. Their mission is to preserve, for public use and enjoyment, properties of exceptional scenic, historic, and ecological value in Massachusetts. www.thetrustees.org
