The Ipswich Visitors Center is offering a self guided audio walking tour of Ipswich. The tour recounts many of the historic events that occurred in Ipswich, as well as a host of other information such as famous Ipswich artists, agriculture, wildlife, and activities available throughout the town. Enjoy fascinating stories about some of the 50+ First Period houses— more than any other town in America—and discover for yourself why Ipswich is named the“Birthplace of American Independence!”

| Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee sponsored hikes |
| Wednesday morning hikes are sponsored by the Ipswich Bay Circuit Trail Committee to explore the woods and trails in and about our town. An informal group meets at the Town Landing on East Street at 9:30 a.m. each Wednesday from mid September to mid June. All are welcome. If you have questions, please call 978 356-5823. |

IPSWICH LACE Ipswich Historical Society curator Katherine Chaison and local lace experts will discuss and demonstrate lace-making technologies and explain lace collection at HIS Monday, May 5, noon-1 pm, at the Brown Bag Lunch talk. Cost: Members, free; non-members, $5. For info, call 978-356-2811.
Gloucester author Janet Ruth Young will read from her novel The Opposite of Music at the Ipswich Public Library on Monday, May 5, at 6:30 p.m. The Opposite of Music tells the story of a family who will do almost anything to save their father from a life-threatening depression. Young's talk will encompass the ups and downs of getting a first book published and will also include tips for would-be writers.

FAMILY JAM DANCE
When: Mother’s Day Weekend
Time: Saturday, May 10, 2-5pm
Where: Town Hall Gymnasium, Ipswich, MA 01938
Dance along with Miss Jenny from Ipswich Moving Company to the family-friendly music of three local bands: Greenheads, Blind Billy, Missing Persons.
Tasty food by local vendors and Mother’s Day gifts by Ipswich artists. Terra cotta pots (donated by Gordon Florists) have been decorated by local artists including Melynn Allen, Cynthia August, Meryl Baier, Maddie Burke, Cara Doran, Joanne Marc-Aurele, Rita Pedrick, Miranda Updike and William Skelton.
Cost: Admission is free, donations accepted. Food, beverages, gifts and raffle tickets available.

| Cantemus Concludes 25th Anniversary Season with Gala Concert: “Silver Sampler: The Best of Cantemus” Cantemus will be joined by 25 returning singers and five former conductors for its final 25th-anniversary-year concert, “A Silver Sampler: The Best of Cantemus,” on Saturday, May 17, Christ Church, 149 Asbury Street, Hamilton, 7:30 pm. A gala champagne reception follows. Advance ticket purchase is recommended: Buy online through www.cantemus.org , or save $2 on tickets at Newburyport Printmaker, Nazir’s of Wenham, River Gallery in Ipswich, and the Book Shop of Beverly Farms. The Ipswich Garden Club presents ANNUAL PLANT SALE “Greening of Ipswich” Saturday, May 17, 2007 The Ipswich Garden Club Annual Plant Sale will be held May 17 from 9-12 on the Hall-Haskell House lawn, South Main Street in Ipswich (next to old Town Hall) or, in case of inclement weather, at the Ascension Church on 31 County Street. This year’s theme is the “Greening of Ipswich”. So bring all your environmental questions. The sale will feature a costumed “Treeture” who will talk with children about how they can help reforest their community. Representatives of local groups will provide information on topics such as recycling and renewable energy. And as usual, you’ll find hundreds of hardy perennials dug from members’ own gardens; a selection of annuals; baskets of small plants and herbs; culinary herbs; a children’s table; and garden-related items such as tools, gloves, and baskets. A two-person teak swing will be raffled and a silent auction will include donated items such as a TTOR membership and a recyling bin.† |
