James Teele

James Teele resides in Ipswich, Massachusetts. He studied watercolor painting with Sally Cassidy of Chestnut Hill, MA; drawing and painting with Ruth Fields; watercolor figures with Dewitt Hardy; and realist painting with Christopher Chippendale. The latter three are faculty members at the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston. He was also tutored in watercolor by the late Gretchen Cook, Professor Emeritus at SMFA. Additionally, he studied art history with Patricia Hills, Professor of Art History at Boston University, and curator of the 2005 Jacob Lawrence Exhibit at the Boston University School of Fine Arts. He works mainly in watercolor, including montotype watercolor prints. Jim has a preference for still life, landscapes, and negative space...and reveals his admiration for Cezanne. Before his art interest became primary, Jim was a professor of sociology, having earned a doctorate from New York University. His career included teaching at the Harvard School of Public Health, the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, and Boston University, where he is Emeritus Professor. He is committed to education on many levels, and has lectured on art to elementary school classes at the Brickett and Hood schools in Lynn, MA.
